Deuterium retention in tungsten studied by sequential implantations at ELM-relevant energies

Plasma edge-localized modes (ELMs) can cause considerable fuel retention in fusion reactor vessel walls by implanting plasma particles with high energies and fluxes. The effect of deuterium ions implanted into tungsten ELM-relevant was studied laboratory conditions using ion beams. Deuterium implantations were done at room temperature low fluxes fluences corresponding to JET ITER estimates a single ELM event for both inter-ELM intra-ELM the divertor during power operation. 100 eV/D correspond an phase, whereas 5 keV/D or 20 used mimic phases ITER, respectively. Resulted from these energy compared sequential – sequences as well sequences. Retention measured ERDA obtain amount irradiated depth profiles each implantation. High showed increased profile around implantation-induced damage maximum. In observed throughout analyzed depth.
